The success story of Pif Paf Foods began in 1968 in Rio de Janeiro. Avelino Costa, a Portuguese national naturalized as a Brazilian, purchased the Pif Paf slaughterhouse. As the largest live chicken wholesaler in the state, Avelino noticed a societal shift and saw a business opportunity. He realized that women who had recently joined the workforce lacked time for household chores. In his view, this opened up a wealth of ideas on how to bring more convenience to these consumers: live animals should make way for frozen chicken. Today, 50 years later, Pif Paf Foods is the largest company in the sector in the state and one of the 7 largest Brazilian companies in the processing of poultry, pork, pasta, and vegetables. With over 8,000 direct employees and 80,000 customers, it operates supplying the main markets in the southeast region, southern Bahia, and Goiás. In addition to the corporate headquarters in Belo Horizonte (MG), it has 10 industrial units and 12 production units, producing 20,000 tons of finished products per month. There are 11 distribution centers, 400 additional distribution vehicles, and 195,000 deliveries per month with a high rate of on-time deliveries. In total, the company processes 74 million poultry slaughters and 554 thousand pig slaughters per year. Its product mix includes more than 300 items, including meat products, pizzas, lasagnas, cheese breads, and sausages. In addition to selling products in Brazil, the company is also present in more than 15 countries. Furthermore, it also supplies raw materials to the industry, with its feed factories, breeders, and hatcheries. The units are located in the interior of Minas Gerais, in Visconde do Rio Branco, Viçosa, Leopoldina, Patrocínio, Pará de Minas, Pitangui, São José da Varginha, Paula Cândido, Igaratinga. In Goiás, Pif Paf is present in Palmeiras de Goiás and Paraúna (GO). The distribution centers are located in Contagem, Araguari (MG), Jandira (SP), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), and Vila Velha (ES).
