About

PGG Wrightson Seeds is a New Zealand-headquartered seed genetics, breeding and supply business focused on pasture, forage and turf systems. Based in Lincoln, Canterbury, the company develops proprietary cultivars and seed technologies, coordinates multiplication and processing, and supplies growers and agricultural distribution channels internationally. It is part of DLF Seeds A/S, a global forage and turf seed group, following DLF’s acquisition of PGG Wrightson Seeds in 2019. The business has a strong heritage in New Zealand pastoral agriculture and maintains international operations and distribution relationships across major temperate farming regions.

Products

The portfolio centres on forage and pasture seed for livestock production, including ryegrasses, clovers, tall fescue, cocksfoot and other grass species. PGG Wrightson Seeds also supplies forage brassicas and crop options used in grazing and feed rotations, alongside selected cereal, maize and turf-seed varieties. A key area of value addition is its plant breeding capability, including endophyte technologies designed to support pasture persistence, animal performance and resilience under different growing conditions. Products are primarily supplied as professional agricultural seed inputs rather than consumer-packaged foods.

Export markets

PGG Wrightson Seeds serves international agricultural markets through direct operations, seed-production partners and distributor networks. New Zealand and Australia are important core markets, while its genetics and forage seed technologies are also commercialised in South America, Europe and other temperate livestock and arable-farming regions. Its international focus is on regions where pasture-based dairy, sheep, beef and mixed-farming systems require improved forage productivity and reliable seed performance.
