BRF, one of the largest food companies globally and owner of the Sadia, Perdigão, and Qualy brands, is once again part of the portfolio of the B3 Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2 B3) of the Brazilian stock exchange. The 64 companies comprising this portfolio have demonstrated efficiency in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and have distinguished themselves by adopting transparent practices in the management of their emissions, thereby contributing significantly to the advancement and transition to a low-carbon economy.

With a focus on sustainability, ICO2 was established by B3 in partnership with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) to promote discussions on climate change in Brazil. Among the practices evaluated are indicators such as climate change targets linked to executives' variable remuneration, public reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, studies to identify climate-related risks and/or opportunities, transition plans aligned with the ambition of limiting global warming to 1.5°C (as recommended by the Paris Agreement), value chain decarbonization targets, among others.

Paulo Pianez, Director of Sustainability at BRF, emphasizes that the integration into the ICO2 B3 portfolio further reinforces the commitment to mitigating and adapting to climate change. "We are deeply committed to the climate agenda, guided by transparency, corporate responsibility, and best management practices," he adds.

Climate goals

BRF is the first food company in Brazil to have targets approved in accordance with the new FLAG methodology (acronym in English for Forests, Land Use, and Agriculture). The commitment is to reduce direct emissions in scopes 1 and 2 by 51% by 2032 and to reduce indirect emissions in scope 3 by 35.7%, which are responsible for 98% of the company's emissions, also by 2032.
